SOAPS IT UP 2017
112 Cars Washed in 5 Hours as VASJ Lady Viking Volleyball and Action CARSTAR Auto Body “Soaps It Up” for Make-A-Wish!
On a beautiful, Saturday, August 5th, with the help of 30 VASJ Lady Viking Volleyball team members and Action CARSTAR Auto Body-Euclid staff, 112 cars were washed at their “Soaps It Up” 9th Annual car wash fundraiser. Action CARSTAR supplied the soap and wash coordination and the girls supplied the GIRL POWER!
The partnership between Action CARSTAR and VASJ Volleyball started back in 2008 when CARSTAR shops nationally decided to hold a car wash fundraiser at each franchise to support Make-A-Wish AND try to beat the Guinness World Record for most cars washed in a single day. Then current Action CARSTAR employee Carrie Insana’s daughter was on the VASJ volleyball team so Cheryl Cameron, Action CARSTAR Rep., approached Coach Mark Royer about partnering. By partnering and bringing in sponsors the team is able to raise more money each year.
Each year the wash has been held in front of VASJ High School and the front parking lot of Euclid Hospital where hospital employees once again had the opportunity to have their cars cleaned and shined! There was abundant sunshine this year and the community came out to show their support, especially VASJ alumni. The public was very generous with donations. Special thanks for donations by Autobody Products Inc., Pat Perrino, Perrino Builders, and "Doc" Holzheimer.
Pre-sale tickets sold by the team and donations made by Euclid Hospital/Cleveland Clinic and the Lynard Zingale-Allstate Agency (East 185th Street) helped the team raise over $4,000 this year with half going to support Make-A-Wish Foundation and the other half to support the VASJ volleyball program. Congrats to VASJ Lady Viking Volleyball team member Brynne Wank who sold 15 tickets, and won 4 tickets to see the Cleveland Indians courtesy of Action CARSTAR.
This year’s donation will grant Jackson his wish to go to Hawaii with his family. Jackson, 11, is from Wooster, Ohio and is battling cystic fibrosis.
Special thanks go to Coach Mark Royer, Coach Rickie and Agent Lynard Zingale from Zingale Allstate for their help during the wash. Donations over the past nine year’s totals close to $21,000 and 867 cars washed! Look for the team next summer! The date will be posted on the “Soaps It Up” Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/SudsItUpActionVASJ/.
Go Lady Vikings!
